I would say so far this has been an uneventful weekend. My daughter and I went to the movies at the new theater. While it is on a much smaller scale of the big theaters, it is actually very comfortable. We saw August: Osage County with Meryl Streep and Julie Roberts. This was a great movie. While all families are dysfunctional in one way or another, this family was really very quite strange.
I read a new statement in a magazine today, which makes me stop and think. See what you think.
"Sometimes on your way to your dream, you get lost and find a better one."

Our Government At Work
I spent my whole morning being filed and refiled for jury duty. First we had to fill out paperwork to prove we were suppose to be where they told us to be - like you would be there if someone didn't make you.....Duhhhh. Then we all patiently waited while a couple of ladies went through the paperwork to make sure that everyone showed up. Then the judge comes out and talks to us and tells us the only excuses he will accept for not serving, like a FELONY CONVICTION??????
Next we had to go around the room and let everyone that really didn't want to be on a jury explain why they really didn't want to be on a jury. There really were some good excuses. Wish I had thought of some of them. I never was very good at excuses but everyone that had one got excused. The judge really was a nice person.
Then the judge gives us a recess. I haven't had one of those since grammar school. Yeah!!!!
Now it's time to go back in and they line us up by our assigned numbers (1,2,3,4,etc.). They put almost all of us in the front of the room and seat 20 of us in the back of the room. Then they take the 20 people in the back of the room out into another courtroom. "Grand jurors for the whole year. Yikes!!!! Now I really feel better.
Okay, then the judge comes back in and tells us that unfortunately, there will be no case today. Seems the guy that was suppose to go on trial skipped out on his bail and they don't have any idea where he might be and they have all the marshals and bail bond people looking for him.
Good News = We get rest of day and tomorrow off.
Bad News = We have to come back Wednesday and start all over again.
I am simply worn out. I would much rather have been working all day. That isn't nearly as stressful.

Erma Bombeck Quote that explains my life
I was too old for a paper route, too young for Social Security and too tired for an affair.
Lazy Sunday
This should be a lazy Sunday just laying around and doing nothing. My "day of rest", so to speak. Well, for the life of me I cannot figure out how to just lay around and do nothing. There is always something to do. Sure I guess I could ignore the dust and cleaning, but after a while it gets in the way of everyday living. Ha! Sooner or later , all the debri and clutter will have to be moved out of the way. I prefer sooner. Seems like if I put it off, it will always come back to get me. Someone will come over unexpectedly and guess what, your house will be cluttered.
I grew up in a house where procrastination was a way of life. My Dad did it and my Mom did it. Seems like we were always running around like crazy people when we found out that the preacher was going to stop by for Sunday dinner. Whewwwwww! it always drove me crazy. Life is stressful enough without causing more.
Anyway, here I am, should be enjoying my lazy Sunday and I am washing clothes, stirring dust around the room, etc. Just wish I could throw out all the clutter and start all over. Wouldn't that be great. Sometimes I think we get too caught up in material things.
Enjoy your days of rest and when you get the urge to pick something up or move it out of the way, just remember, I probably have already been there done that.
Oops. Got to go now. The dryer just buzzed. See you next week.

Farming
Okay. I admit it. I am definitely hooked. I plow and plant and count the hours until my crops will be ready. Then I get a good neighbor to harvest for me so I can make more money. Sometimes it is hard though. All my neighbors are busy doing other things. I guess I don't have a lot of other things. Anyway then I go to the market and see if I can work out a trade with anyone. That is, I will pick your crops, if you will pick my crops. Lol!
Anyway, it really is a lot of fun and can be very addictive. My daughter got me started.
I've been thinking about that Mafia game on facebook but knowing me, I would become addicted to that too. I guess it is a good thing I don't drink.

The Porcupine State of Mind
I was just reading about the book that my daughters' friend Amy just read called Soon to be a Major Motion Picture by Donna Partow. I think it had a character in thebook that is me although I sincerely hope I am not too prickly.
One of the opening chapters deals with what the author says is a common problem amongst churchgoers. It is titled, "The Porcupine State of Mind." This prickly personality is typecast as one suffering from a persistent, know-it-all, fix-it attitude. Partow defines this theoretical person as one who has lots of good points though no one wants to be around her. A porcupine woman knows she is right --- she can straighten out the people in her life, her workplace, her church, her world. To determine if one is a porcupine individual, Partow purports that said individuals frequently deliver silent sermons to everyone, from the store clerk to their pastor. Other key indicators include thinking you are the best neighbor, yet the neighbors never invite you over, or perhaps you single-handedly run your place of business but repeatedly get passed over for a promotion. Even though you've devoted your life to your children, they never come around anymore.
So much of this comes very close to home, especially with my son. He never calls or comes home. We actually jokingly call him "no news is good news" because we never hear from him unless he genuinely has a problem and needs my assistance. Other than that he is basically an invisible person. Now that I think of it he was actually a very quiet child also.
I guess when they are growing up this is good because they never cause you any problems, but when they grow up and leave home, you wish they would remember where they came from occasionally.
I guess what I am trying to say is even when your children get on your last nerve, enjoy them while they are there because when they are gone, a house can be very silent.

Fads of the 80's
I realized that one of my children was a child of the 80's and I found this list of fads during that time. I'm afraid to say that I rememeber all of these when she was growing up and enjoyed many of them as much as she did.

- Baby On Board Signs
- Boom Boxes
- Rubik Cube
- Skateboarding
- Trivial Pursuit Game
- Video Arcades
- Wrestling - Although it has made a comeback in recent years, nothing even compares with the classic years of the WWF, and the NWA.
- Break Dancing
- Cabbage Patch Dolls
- Roller Skating
I'm really not sure if we will even remember what the kids of today are into. Seems like kids are so much older now than they were when my kids were growing up. Kids just aren't children anymore. We are trying to turn them into little adults. Scary!!!

Children in the Seventies
You know you were a kid in the 70's if:
- You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color.
- You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie.
- You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Famesoundtrack record album.
- You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts!
- You thought Olivia Newton John's song "Physical" was about aerobics. (*It wasn't???)
Boy times were really easy back then and kids were a whole lot easier to please.

Very Excited

There was a huge thing that happened at my house on Friday night. I ordered memory for my computer and after two weeks, it finally arrived. I asked a few computer technicians and also googled on the internet about how to actually do this. I was really afraid that I was going to mess things up and have to get someone to come out and fix my mistake. Good news! I actually took the cover off and installed 2 Gigs of memory to my computer. I went from snail action to lightning speed in less than an hour. Boy was I relieved that it went so smooth. I think I should update my resume on this one. LOL..............

My husband sent me an email today that he knew was going to take my breath away. He sent me a video from youtube of a little six year old girl that has a beautiful voice. I think she is probably about 8 now because this was a few years back. She is singing one of my favorite songs, "Over The Rainbow". I am going to try and link it to my blog so you can listen. It is unbelievable that God could make something so beautiful in a world that is so bad.
YouTube - Connie Talbot - Over The Rainbow (BGT Final)
Hope the link is there and hope you enjoy.

Today was a really crazy day. Who goes shopping on purpose in the rain. Most people stay at home on a day like today unless they have to get out. Well (deep subject), we got out and went shopping. First we stopped at the phone store to get my friends new phone checked out because she was having issues. Well, what am I going to do but look around while she is talking to the sales rep.
Bad move! I found another red phone and this one had a full keyboard. I mean, who needs a keyboard on a phone. Isn't it just suppose to have numbers so you can dial? Anyway, long story short. I bought a new phone. Don't know if I will ever get it to work, however, it did ring once after I got home and I managed to answer it. Ha!
We've really come a long way. I remember when you use to pick up the phone and the operator ask you who she could connect you with on your call. Technology - who knew.
The generation today doesn't have a clue how hard we use to have it. Now you can type something on the computer and change it an unlimited number of times before it is published. We use to use carbon whenever we wanted more than one copy of something. We didn't even have copy machines. And you didn't make many mistakes because it was a big deal to erase all those carbons. Now days if you see something you want, you just buy it on time. When I first got married, we saved up until we could pay for a item. They didn't just give credit away to anyone back then. Probably why so many people are in debt these days. We even were taught to take good care of things and get them repaired when they broke. Now it cost less to just buy a new one. The world is really moving fast these days and I am trying very hard to keep up. Sometimes it is best to just step back and watch and not get caught up in the race.
Sorry for rattling on. I do that a lot. Guess I will go get the book for this new phone and read the instructions. What a novel idea. Some people are so smart they can just pick up a piece of equipment and make it do miracles but little ole me still has to read the instructions.
I better go now. Have a wonderful weekend and I will close now.

Everything is looking good
Well this has been an exciting evening. With my best friend's assistance, I think I have a template that fits my personality. I also managed to upgrade the memory in my computer without any assistance. My computer is so fast I can barely keep up. LOL!
All-in-all I would say this was a pretty good week. I also went to weigh-in this week and lost another pound. Pretty soon the skinny person inside this body will make her way out. Then look out Spring. Here I come.
If I get this weight off this time, I will not let it come back. It is certainly fun to put it on but is definitely not as much fun taking it off.

I guess you can say I am taking baby steps. I found a template I liked from a free site my daughter sent me. I figured out how to put it on my blog, however, I can't figure out how to remove the old template. So I have the old on top of the new. You might say that I am the only one that knows that butterfly is in the back ground. Taking too much thinking this late in the night so I will figure it out tomorrow.

Freshman
I feel like a freshman who just started a new school and doesn't know anyone. We will see how this goes. I'm not good at talking about myself but I've always thought I had a story to tell.
Welcome to my world and I will try not to bore you too much.
Thanks for reading my new blog and I look forward to growing in this experience and someday being a graduate.
